About this Shot
If I had to pick a favorite shot out of my portfolio, this shot of Chris Hodgson would definitely be in the running. Amusingly, I’ve never actually met Chris Hodgson. “But, how did you get this photo then?” Hyland Software held a corporate Christmas Party back in 2012 and I asked if I could do photography for the evening. Kathleen, the minister of culture, gladly allowed me the opportunity.
In the line up for entertainment and food was Cleveland celebrity chef: Chris Hodgson. He catered the event with both his food truck, Hodge Podge, and his restaurant, Hodge’s. Hyland definitely didn’t mess around!
Late in the event, I noticed he was walking towards my direction. I greeted him, and asked if he’d let me take a photo. He smiled, posed, and I fired away. I only had one shot, and this was it. I thanked him, and he was gone just as fast as I saw him.
This was one of the greatest learning moments in photography for me: “Get it right the first time because it might be your only chance.”
Thank you, Chris Hodgson, for letting me take this shot and for all the wonderful events you’ve done for Hyland Software!
