Cashing In and Cashing Out

If I were to take a guess as to what question is asked the most in WoW, it would be “wut spec 2 lvl fastest?” But the next most often asked question would probably “how2earn gold?” Or really “can u give me gold pzl?” I usually receive the latter because not only is the person a beggar, but apparently uneducated (No, Vitamins, I’m not talking about you.)
There’s alot of obvious ways to earn money out there, and the list would include:
- Farming
- Doing Dailies
- Playing the AH Market
- … Buying gold (I don’t believe in gold buying, but it’s always an option, I suppose)
Ok, I digress. Point is there are alot of different ways to get money. Every rich guy (in WoW, and more broadly any MMORPG) has some little niche(s) that work out well to bring in a constant cash flow. You’re not reading this article because you like reading (maybe). You want to know how I bring in the “bling.”
My Secret to WoW Financial Freedom
Know your market. That’s all. What? You expected some awesome trick? There’s nothing more important than that. I’m not writing the Ten Commandments of WoW Riches, but if I was, that would be rule #1.
The second rule is that you have to watch your market. You’ll always have to be wary of your competitors Take note of how he sells something, when he sells something, and how aggressive his pricing might be against yours.
The third rule is to stay diverse. The old addage goes “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.” So don’t do it. You’ll find yourself with too much stuff and not enough people if you’re always trying to sell that one item.
“But Shin, where do I start?” Well, here’s a little list of what I personally do to rack up the money.
- Fishing in Nagrand: Primals
- Jewelcrafting: Buy Gems, Cut, Resell
- Tailoring/Enchanting: Farm Netherweave, Make Cloth Items, Shard
- Daily Cooking Quest
- Daily PvP Quest
Doing the above listed things typically nets me anywhere between 100g-200g a day for about one hour’s worth of effort (flying around … and posting things on the AH). Gems have been a little slow because of the Season 3 marketing flood, so I’m holding back on my sales for those.
My goal is to get 20,000G before WoTLK. Ultimately, this all boils down to execution.
Jump around Shattrath for one hour, or go out and earn a little cash? Hmm… I wonder.

You’re just an exception.
You’ve always been the exception.

If you’ve got the herb skill you can go farm the tree fellahs in Skettis for a pretty penny as well.
Also, when is WotLK gonna be anyways?

WoTLK doesn’t have a release date, but a recent blue post makes me wonder if 2008 will be the year …
See this:
“I believe you are referring to a comment that was made by our EVP of Product Development, Frank Pearce , in which he said we would like to release one a year. But, we’ve also made clear that while we would like to do that, we don’t plan to rush anything for the sake of releasing one a year. We didn’t make a claim but tried to answer a question that was posed to us about how we would like to approach the release of further expansions.
Reaching that timeline isn’t as important as releasing something we feel lives up to the standard of excellence that Blizzard Entertainment is known for.”

Mmmm, I really don’t wanna have to level 3 characters to 80 any time soon…

Well, they’ve stated that WotLK will follow Sunwell. Sunwell is slated for 2.4 (another month or so).

Another month or so? Yeaaaa, I’m thinking maybe another 4-5 months.

For Sunwell?

Sadly, all of those possible legit ways to earn cash still lose out to simply being able to level up and sell arena teams. There are a couple people in our guild now with 10k+ gold with very little time spent, and they get to PvP and have fun while doing it. I think it’s a pretty broken system, and not even the rating requirements for weapon/shoulders will do much to change it.
